Ch.35 A New Day

Comic, The Great Barley and Bay-Lily Circus
June 2, 2020

Gemini sits up in her bed. She is back in our own room. It is a bright day.

SHCK. She opens her window to let the breeze in.

Woosh! The air caresses her.

Gemini sighs. "I'm still scared." She says, looking out the window.

She has her head in her hand, looking out at the skyline. "The city is so big.. and I don't know all the rules."

"But there's so much I can still do. Can still be."

"I'm not going to give up."

Flip! She expertly flips the pancakes from the pan to a stack on a plate.

"Mornin' Sailor!" She says to Veil who enters through the doorway. "Morning." He responds, scrolling on his golden apple phone.

"I made pancakes!" Gemini displays her stack of pancakes proudly to Veil. It is topped with a fox-shaped pancake.

"They fox-shaped because. Y'know." She explains. "I know." Veil responds.

"You know why, you KNOW" Gemini stabs the fox pancake with a fork. "Right. I know." Veil responds.

Veil has finished his pancakes save for the fox one. He looks at shadowy images of Barley & Bay-Lily on his phone.

"Hm." He says, scrolling through a site or forum post about them. "Hm?" Gemini asks. They are both sitting on the couch.

"Pur ringleaders were sighted in anotehr borough." Veil mentions, continuing to scroll on his phone. There is an image of the cyclops girl with a question mark next to her.

"Guess they're not ready to go home either." Gemini says. "mm." Veil responds

"I can't even remember it all. It feels like a dream or maybe a nightmare..."

Gemini clenches her hand around her fork, nervously fidgeting with her pancakes. "I just hope things get better."

Veil notices her anxiety.

He turns off his phone.

"Ah– why don't we go for a stroll in the park? As a break?" he smiles. "Oooh!~ YEAH!" Gemini exclaims.

"I can see if any stalls are hiring!" Gemini says, "and if I'm overwhlemed, then—" Veil reaches down to take Gemini's dish.

"—Then I will be there to help." Veil carries both dirty dishes off to the kitchen. "Thanks, Veil." "Of course, we're friends." "Yeah," Gemini smiles.

"Friends..." Gemini mutters to herself, remembering how they almost kissed in the circus ring.

"Thanks for Reading!" the images reads. Gemini poses up front with Veil behind her, they are in a city park against their world's unusual sky.
