Ch.9: She Can Do Anything

the woman who resembles Gemini moves closer to center stage

she stops for a moment building anticipation

the stage lights make her look ethereal, as the light shines off the white feather bodice and blood red jewels that adorn her neck

Gemini watches from the stage. Her eyes begin to glaze over, as if falling into a trance. "Whoa! She...", Gemini starts.

"She looks so cool!", Gemini exclaims. Magic grips her, surrounding in a green glow.

The performer continues her routine, expertly juggling objects and twirling on her unicycle. Sparks fly from the wheels, making the floor look like a sea of stars. "She's so poised", Gemini notes.

Gemini flushes in excitement as the crowd "The audience loves her" she says in awe.

The performer handles trick after trick with ease, showering the ring in sparks and high-flying throwing.

Gemini begins to tear, her flush face and awed expression at odds with the creeping sadness that is overtaking her. "She can do anything!" Gemini says aloud to no one, "She doesn't have to worry about running back home."

The stage lights glow ever brighter, illuminating the performer in a soft, glow. In the light you can see her eyes shut. There is not a strand out of-place from her coiffed hair, nor stain showing on her face, with makeup perfect.

Gemini stares at the performer, who's face so much resembles hers - except more perfect, less strained and disheveled from her own plain appearance. Vertigo sets in and as the world spins Gemini admits. "I'm not like her at all." Droplets move from her eyes and hit her shoulders.

The performance ends abruptly, with the twin foxes appearing in the glow of the lights. "How sad", they note in unison. Flower petals escape from the maw.

"This delicious night draws to an end.", the twin foxes announce. The air in their eye sockets glow and simmer with otherworldly power. "But fret not, our dear patrons!" Barley points to the tent ceiling, and suddenly the sky above can be seen through the tent fabric, revealing the night sky and eye in the shape of a crescent moon. "the eye above is but half open...", the twin foxes remind the audience.

"And you will join us again", they tease, smiling as they float over to Gemini. Picked flowers and leaves fall and surround the small ringleaders. They encircle Gemini and she gives one her hand. Her skin pales slightly, but now resembles the unicyclist in every way, from her feathery tutu, to her styled hair bun.

Both fox ringleaders burst revealing flowers and skulls ready to chomp at Gemini's throat. "You will join us. Won't you!!" hey shreech out menicingly. Scared and confused, Gemini holds her hand aloft and turns to the audience and sees herself.

And then she wakes, in different clothes and nestled in her bed and the warm glow of the early morning, her hand still aloft as if to try and protect herself.

The first act is finished and something isn’t as it seems.
